Weekend Wish List: Mostly Poetry And Jazz

Its set to be a jazzy weekend in Nairobi, thanks to Labour Day/Jazz Day combo. Well, it just happens that The International Jazz Day is also a public holiday –Workers’ Day in Kenya. I think its safe to say that the gods affection for us is obvious because the devil only knows how lit this weekend is about to get. Imagine an end-month-weekend leading to a work-free-Monday!

It all begins tonight with Orchestra Masika; a Kenyan based 11-man band with members from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Congo and Angola who will be live at Js Fresh Kitchen tonight. Lovers of electronic music and contemporary art have their own party at the Goethe Institute where SYMBIZ and MDQ will join L.I.A and Coco Em for an edm concert.

Tomorrow night Fadhilee will be launching his album K W E T U at the Alliance Francaise while Nairobi Horns Project will be hosting their 3rd Live At MJC. At the same time, Nyama Mama KE in conjunction with #RickyNaMarafiki presents #AnEveningOfAfroJazz featuring the prolific Idd Aziz live on stage.

Saturday and Sunday will be poetry filled as Random Access Poetry and Nairobi Poetry Cafe host Nasara, Yung Noize and Carlisto; Teardrops and Riya respectively. Nyama Mama will also be hosting NHP alongside Nameless, Shamsi Music, Silyioa among others for the May Day concert.
